Project Overview

Building a customer app requires extensive research, especially given the rapid shifts in shopping behaviors and current economic situations. The primary objective was to ensure the application delivers genuine, measurable value to users rather than just being another icon on their home screen.

This project involved navigating complex requirements and dealing with many different parties. Ultimately, our streamlined design process and clear value proposition led to an incredibly efficient workflow, requiring only a single feedback session before moving straight into the final production stage.

Research & Discovery

Driving User Adoption

In a saturated market where most retail apps offer similar baseline features, the main challenge was defining a unique hook that makes customers curious enough to download and actually use the app.

Bridging Online & Offline

Users needed a genuinely useful reason to rely on the app. We had to figure out how to seamlessly connect the digital browsing experience with physical in-store shopping.

Complex Stakeholder Goals

Balancing the diverse expectations of multiple business parties while ensuring the end product remained fiercely user-centric and aligned with current economic realities.

Design Process

With research findings consolidated into an affinity map, I moved into information architecture — restructuring the navigation from a bottom tab bar with 7 items to a focused 4-item bar with a quick-action FAB. This alone resolved the most common navigation confusion identified in interviews.

Low-fidelity wireframes were tested with 8 participants via Maze before any visual design was applied — ensuring structural decisions were validated first. The hi-fi design phase in Figma then applied the new visual language: a clean, trust-inspiring aesthetic with clear hierarchy and accessible colour contrast ratios throughout.

From these insights, many improvements came up, ranging from a modernized user interface to optimizing the exact type of information customers actually need to make a decision. To answer the challenge of user adoption, we introduced a standout feature: real-time local inventory tracking. This allows users to check exactly which nearby physical stores have their desired product in stock.

The goal was to ensure the app's release perfectly aligned with the client’s high expectations while delivering standout value that genuinely helps the customers.
